Silicone Breast Augmentation History |
Both scientific and medical communities scrutinized
silicone breast
augmentation implant
more often than the others medical devices in the whole world. Mass
media, the downfall of the major manufacturers of silicone
breast
augmentation implants, class action lawsuits served to confuse the
public plus intensify the examination of silicone breast augmentation
devices.
Silicone breast augmentation implants were created and utilized first
in 1962 by Dr. Cronin and evolved through some different generations of
the chemical and structural improvements through the decades.
Initial silicone breast augmentation implants were such
silicone
oil sponges which caused significant scaring known like capsular
contracture. Silicone breast augmentation improvements led to
creation of newer device containing a silicone elastomer outer shell
which was filled with the mix of gels or silicone oils. The
'second generation' silicone breast augmentation implants
still
were rather leaky of the silicone oils, so capsular contracture was the
greatest problem. Improvements silicone breast augmentation
implants have lead to a 'low bleed' implant that has a rather similar
rate of the capsular contracture.
Even with no the mandate, prior studies elucidated biologic nature as
well as safety of silicone breast augmentation in humans,
and a Congressional Act had been confirmed in 1986 by the
clinical
results from the breast
augmentation surgery around the world.
However in 1992, some coincidental cases lead to the unique situation
that changed the history for silicone filled breast implants. The first
allegation of a law suit was silicone implants caused some debilitating
injuries for thousands of women. So, it was told the public like about
'dangerous' devices. The silicone breast
augmentation implant sale was stopped because of lack of data
proving safety and efficacy.
Silicone gel
breast
augmentation implants are widely available now since the
approval
in 2006l by Food and Drug Administration after voluntary research
conducted by manufacturers.
